The God Who Forgives - Cheektowaga

Before Bethlehem

Jonathan Stanke - December 21, 2025

Community Group Study Notes

  1. Have someone in your group give a brief recap of Sunday’s message, highlighting the primary Scripture points and the main idea of the message. If members of your group attend different campuses, be sure to discuss the message from each campus.
  2. Was there anything you heard for the first time or that caught your attention, challenged, or confused you? Did you learn anything new about God or yourself this week?
  3. Read Micah 7:8-20. What phrases from Micah 7:8-20 encourage you personally? How do these verses shape your understanding of God’s character?
  4. Why is it sometimes difficult to believe that God delights to show mercy? Where do you struggle to believe that God actually delights in forgiving you
  5. Are there sins, failures, or regrets you tend to keep revisiting even after confessing them? What keeps you from letting them go? How does the image of God casting our sins into the depths of the sea challenge the way you view your past?
  6. What does confident hope in God’s forgiveness look like as we prepare to celebrate Christmas?
  7. What action step do you need to take in response to this week’s message? How can your group hold you accountable to this step?

Action Step

  1. Receive forgiveness: spend time thanking God specifically for sins He has forgiven and ask Him to deepen your joy.
  2. Offer forgiveness or compassion to someone this week - even in a small way.
  3. Share a brief testimony or encouragement about God’s mercy with a friend, family member, or coworker.
